40 Days of Teshuva
According to Hazal, Moshe ascended Mount Sinai on Rosh Hodesh Elul in the aftermath of the Sin of the Golden Calf to pray for the nation. His attempts culminated in the Day of Atonement, when God confirmed that he had forgiven the nation. Moshe then descended the mountain, to deliver the Luhot ha-Berit - the second set of tablets – thus reaffirming the covenant. As a result of these events, the forty days from Rosh Hodesh Elul to Yom Kippur have traditionally become a time of prayer and repentance, a time in which we seek God's compassion and forgiveness.
We invite you to participate in forty days of study leading up to Yom Kippur.
