  1. Korach and the Power of Democracy

Rabbi Alex Israel | 39 דקות

One troubling aspect of Parshat Korah is that the rebellion never dies down. That seems to be because there are real issues here - Moshe and Aharon seem to have all the closeness to God, and the people do not share in the leadership or decision-making. So what was the problem with Korach? Is it possible for non-Leviim to attain holiness? The example of Shmuel ha-Navi provides a key.

  2. Rosh HaShana Torah and Haftarah Readings - Judgment and Tears

    Rabbi David Silverberg

  3. “Ka-Arava”: Sukkot and Zechariah's Prophecy of Redemption

    Prof. Yoel Elitzur

What aspect of the festival of Sukkot pertains to the nation of Israel and its history? The verse, “I made the Israelite people live in booths” (Leviticus 23:43) does not really answer our question, as the verse does not refer to any particular date in the month of Tishrei, but rather to the overall experience of the nation of Israel.

The answer to the question is provided by the prophet Zechariah, in a prophecy that we read as the haftara on the first day of Sukkot.
